Who Are We and Why Should You Join Us?

The San Antonio Adult Baseball League | SAABL is a relatively new league in San Antonio for adults ages 18 and over. The SAABL was established in 2023 and is highly organized, well-managed, responsible, competitive, fair and fun. Our goal is to provide adult baseball players, their families and all fans of the game, with an enjoyable experience. All SAABL games are played on high quality fields here in San Antonio. We issue awards / trophies for the Home Run Derby Champion, All-Star Game winner and League Champions. Our leadership here at SAABL has worked diligently to build vital relationships with leaders & coaches in the baseball community and has created a thriving, robust and enjoyable adult baseball league in San Antonio!

Games

Games are either 9 innings or no new inning after 2:50 in length, whichever comes first. We play according to the Official Rules of Major League Baseball (MLB), with modifications that are implemented specifically for the benefit of an adult baseball league and for the safety of adult players. Games are played on Sundays with start times of 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM. Games have a live announcer who serves as the official scorekeeper and plays music during warm-ups and between innings.

Fields

All of our games are played on high-quality fields here in San Antonio. For the 2025 season, our games will be played at James Madison High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School. We continue to negotiate with additional high schools in San Antonio and may have access to these additional, high-quality fields for the 2025 and future seasons!

Divisions

For our 2024 season, we had 6 teams in Division 1 (Open, age 18+) and 4 teams in Division 2 (30+). While the majority of our players are between 18 and 35 years of age, we do have many players between 40 and 60 years old that are still playing at a high level. For the 2025 season, we expect to offer play in these same two divisions. As our league continues to grow and flourish in the future, we plan to offer additional age divisions.

Season

Our season consists of 20-regular season games, an All-Star Game, followed by single-elimination playoffs that end with the division championships.

The season begins in early March, with the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game scheduled at the mid-way point in mid-July and ends in early October.

Home Run Derby

The HR Derby is held at the mid-way point of the season, in the morning on the day of the All-Star Game. The Derby is open to all SAABL players. There is a nomimal cost of $10 to participate. Points are awarded for not only HR's but also for balls that land at various established distances in the outfield. The winner of the HR Derby receives an award and a pro-grade bat.

All-Star Games

At the mid-point of each season, we have an All-Star Game. Players for the All-Star game are voted for by the managers of their respective division. This is a full, 9-inning game with umpires. Players wear their regular season team uniform. There is not an additional cost to players who are voted to play in the All-Star Game.

Playoffs

Playoffs for each division begin one week after the completion of the regular season. The top 4 teams in each division qualify for the playoffs with semifinal matches determined by end of season final rankings (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3). Winners of each semifinal match advance to the Championship Game the following week.

Division Champions receive a team trophy and t-shirts for players & coaches.

Awards

The SAABL believes wholeheartedly that our league is 'for the players' and that players should be recognized & celebrated for their successes. The following outlines how players are awarded in the SAABL:
